Iran’s production of steel ingots in the 10 months to January 19 reached 25.36 million tons, indicating an 11% growth year-on-year, according to Iranian Steel Producers Association (ISPA).ISPA statistics show that in the same period last year, the figure stood at 22.87 million tons, IRNA reported. During the 10-month period, Iran produced 15.79 million tons of steel blooms and billets as well as 9.56 million tons of steel slabs, with the figures showing year-on-year growths of 13% and 7%, respectively. In the same period last year, the figures stood at 13.95 million tons (billets and blooms) and 8.91 million tons (slabs).Steel productsIn addition, during the 10-month period, the country produced over 18.35 million tons of steel products, indicating an 11% increase compared to that of the same period last year, which stood at 16.59 million tons. Earlier, the former caretaker of the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade, Jafar Sarqeyni, said the capacity of the country’s steel chain has reached 230 million tons in the current Iranian year, from 123 million tons in 2013. He noted, “Today, thanks to efforts by Iranian experts, Iran’s annual raw steel output stands at 37 million tons despite US sanctions.” According to figures released by the World Steel Association (WSA) on January 25, Iranian steelmakers churned out over 29 million tons of crude steel in 2020. The statistics show a 13.3% rise for Iran compared to the corresponding figure of 2019, which stood at 25.6 million tons. Global crude steel production surpassed 1.8 billion tons for the year 2020, down by 0.9% compared to 2019.According to the Islamic Republic’s Vision Plan, the country’s total steel production capacity is to hit 55 million tons a year by 2025, with exports figure expected to reach 10-15 million tons.The World Steel Association (WSA) is one of the largest and most dynamic industry associations in the world.
