Algerian Sonatrach Achieves Record Refining Production

The Sonatrach group announced that its refining activity has reached “excellent levels” of production of petroleum products, specifying that it has ceased its imports of diesel since March 2020 and gasoline since August of the same year.

According to a Sonatrach press release, refining activity achieved record levels of production of diesel (9.5 million tons) and gasoline (3.4 million tons) over the past year. In 2020, Sonatrach’s refining activity recorded an increase of 7.4% in the volumes of oil and condensate processed compared to 2019, from 27.2 million tons to 29.1 million tons.

This increase was favored in particular by the ramp-up of the Algiers refinery, which allowed Sonatrach to stop its imports of diesel since March 2020 and gasoline since August. Sonatrach also exported, for the first time in the last decade, volumes of gasoline and diesel, the press release added.
