The resumption of domestic flights is a godsend for travel agencies that can return to activity, at standstill since more than 09 months, and contribute to the revival of a domestic tourism strongly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, tourism operators told APS. Director General of Tourism at the Ministry of Tourism, Craft Industry and Family Work Noureddine Nedri said that the resumption of domestic flights on 6 December is expected “to revive” domestic tourism because “travel agencies can return to activity by proposing various offers at competitive prices in anticipation of school and end-of-year vacations.” These vacations coinciding with the desert tourism season is an opportunity for tourism operators that will “resume their activities, even progressively, after being strongly affected by the new coronavirus and the significant financial loss they incurred,” said the same official. As for the losses suffered by tourism operators due to the health crisis, Nedri said that the suspension of activities “harms the development of economy” hence the importance of “reviving development activities to make up for financial losses gradually.”In this regard, he invited travel agencies to draw up competitive programs and to develop various circuits to attract tourists and make up for financial losses, recalling the meeting held recently with the operators of the sector to discuss ways to revive tourism through the resumption of activities of travel agencies by offers covering all regions of the country, especially southern ones. The tourism departments of 14 southern provinces were asked to involve all operators in the promotion of desert tourism through the organization of excursions in these regions and offers on social networks and various media, especially in the provinces of Tamanrasset, Illizi, Béchar, Biskra and Ghardaïa, said Nedri. Director General of the Algerian National Office of Tourism (ONAT) Tahar Arezki stressed the importance of resuming domestic flights, which will certainly boost the activity of operators active through the development of programs and offers that meet the choices of customers during the desert tourism season.
