Iranian Commercial Attaché in Iraq’s Erbil Javad karimi said that commercial exchanges between Iran and Iraq are going on in Northern border regions as health protocols are completely observed throughout dealings. “Tamarchin, Bashmaq and Parvizkhan borders have resumed their activities by observing health protocols,” Javad Karimi said. “After the spread of the coronavirus on Feb. 21, 2020, and closure of passenger borders and suspension of flights, a critical condition occurred so that trade borders and customs activities of the two countries were suspended for a period of 48 hours,” he added.Karimi said that cooperation of Iranian and Kurdish officials did not let bilateral commerce be halted due to the virus outbreak. He underlined that health protocols are all observed according to the World Health Organization rules and also World Customs Union criteria.The value of Iran’s trade with Iraq through the Kurdistan Region’s border crossings during the last Iranian year, which ended March 19, stood at US$3.8 billion, according to the spokesperson of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA). About 42% of the total exports to Iraq during the last fiscal year took place through the Kurdistan Region’s Parvizkhan, Bashmagh and Haji Omaran border crossings, Rouhollah Latifi said, reported Mehr News Agency.Parvizkhan border crossing saw the entry of three million tons of goods, worth US$1.4 billion. Just over US$1.1 billion worth of Iranian goods were exported through Bashmagh, and US$754 million through Haji Omaran, Latifi added.In relevant remarks a senior trade official said on February 23 that different non-oil goods are being imported and exported via all Iranian and Iraqi borders except Mehran border. “Presently, most borders of the two countries are open and transit of goods is underway between the two countries,” Director General of Iranian Road Maintenance and Transpiration Organization for International Transport and Transit Office Manouchehr Salmanzadeh said on Sunday. He, meantime, noted that the stoppage of truck for transit of goods via Mehran Border will be settled soon. Salmanzadeh reiterated that there is no problem in the field of export of goods via common borders with Iraq. Transit of goods via Chazabeh, Shalamcheh, Parvizkhan and Bashmagh is done regularly. - Fars
