Following the establishment of the direct shipping lines from India and other important ports in the GCC region, the sultanate’s flagship goods carrier Oman Shipping Company (OSC) has transported over 22,000 containers to Oman and neighboring countries.On its official twitter handle OSC said, ‘Since it began operating direct lines from the ports of India, more than 15,000 containers shipped for the sultanate and more than 7,000 containers to the Persian Gulf ports during the past month.’Earlier this month, Oman’s government-owned holding firm for logistics - Asyad announced that it has established direct links with 86 ports from 55 different countries to ensure uninterrupted flow of fruits, vegetables, meat, grains and other essential items in the country amid stringent measures taken by the authorities across the region to curb the spread of COVID-19.‘All lines are sustainable after the coronavirus pandemic, and there is a central business team inside Asyad which is maintaining a close eye on all the developments,’ said OSC in the tweet.OSC also revealed that it has the technical and commercial ability to expand its operations to meet the requests of merchants. It can also provide tailored shipping solutions according to the requirements of the local traders.OSC said in another tweet that it has also formed a committee which is directly communicating with merchants and importers in the country.The company owns a fleet of 55 ships connecting ports of the sultanate with the ports of the world, transporting general, bulk and liquid cargo and containers.
