Egypt-KSA Power Line Project Delayed Due to Coronavirus Pandemic

Egypt’s electricity interconnection project with Saudi Arabia is halted due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to Afrik 21 news website, without citing a source. The Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) has postponed the reception of bids for the construction of the power line project up to 60 days. All contracts were scheduled to be signed before the end of May 2020.

In February, EETC opened the tender for the project, inviting seven companies for participation. Investments for the Saudi-Egyptian electrical link amount to US$1.6 billion, with Saudi Arabia contributing US$1 billion. Each country bears the value of the work done on its lands.
