The first phase of a gas sweetening project has been launched at industrial complex No. 3 of Maroun Oil and Gas Production Company (MOGPC). The unit is aimed at sweetening sour gas produced at Asmari reservoir of Maroun and is developed by a private local company.According to the National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC), Mansour Torkaman Asadi, director of technical affairs at MOGPC, pointed to the permeation of hydrogen sulfur in part of the Asmari reservoir of Maroun, saying: "Collecting and processing gas of the reservoir was not possible because of the impact of dry gas and liquids as well as severe corrosion at the gas and liquefaction plant so the gas was sent to the flare inevitably.βHe added, βTo collect and sweeten the gas, the construction of a gas sweetening plant by a private company was considered for the gathering of 15 Mscf/d.β The first phase of the plant has been designed for the sweetening of 12 Mscf/d of gas which can be used as petrochemical feedstock, he said. For the second phase of the plant, a turbocompressor will be installed in order to boost gas pressure for the sweetening of 3 Mscf/d. - Shana
