Qatari Delegation Explores Investment Opportunities in N. Ireland

A business delegation from Qatar Chamber has held a number of meetings with governmental and private business institutions during a visit to explore investment opportunities in Northern Ireland. The delegation, headed by Qatar Chamber second vice chairman Rashid bin Hamad al-Athba, and accompanied by British ambassador to Qatar, Ajay Sharma, visited a number of governmental and private institutions and companies in Belfast, including the Investment Authority and the Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce and the Queen and Ulster Universities, Parliament Northern Ireland and others.

At a meeting with Minister of Economy of Northern Ireland Diane Dodds, the delegation reviewed the prospects for economic and commercial co-operation and the investment climate in Northern Ireland, as well as the investment opportunities in which Qatari businessmen can build fruitful partnerships with their Irish counterparts.

In a press statement, al-Athba said Qatari businessmen are keen on exploring the investment climate and opportunities available in Northern Ireland. He affirmed that many Qatari companies were keen to launch businesses in Belfast. Al-Athba also praised the historical relations of the private sector in both countries, saying the trade exchange between Qatar and Britain reached about US$2.9 billion in 2018 and increased in the first nine months of 2019 to reach US$3 billion.
