Report on Bahrain's Q1 Tenders


A total of 75 tenders worth BD200 million (US$526 million), covering the roads, sanitary and construction sectors, had been invited by the Bahrain's Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry during the first three months of the year. Of this, 34 bids worth BD148.2 million (US$390 million) had been already awarded, said a statement from the ministry.

Minister of Works, Municipalities Affairs & Urban Planning Engineer Essam bin Abdulla Khalaf said the total cost of the tenders, for which bids had been invited, stood at BD51.8 million (US$136.3 million), varying between 18 for the roads sector, 9 for sanitary, 12 for construction and two for technical services sector.

Khalaf said the projects for which bids were invited in the three sectors included the revamp of the access to the Bahrain International Airport (Phase 1), the revamp of roads in Halat Bu Maher Block 216, Saar Avenue Revamp, Adliya Roads Revamp Block 338 (Phases 3 & 4), Blocks 804 & 814 Revamp in Isa Town besides provision of turning routes along the roads leading to Al Qadam Roundabout and expansion of the roundabout.

The projects also include Maintenance of Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman Causeway, Operation and maintenance of North Sitra Sewage Treatment Plant, Implementation of irrigation network in Rashid's Equestrian Club, Consultancy services for the design of Sakhir Sports City, an academic building in Muharraq Elementary School for Girls, the construction of four buildings in Tubli Sewage Treatment Plant, and an academic building in Khadija Al Kubra Intermediate School for Girls in Muharraq, said teh minister.

In the construction sector, 10 projects worth BD1.98 million (US$5.21 million) were awarded, including the construction of the agriculture affairs building, funded by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, he added.
