TPO Urges Higher-Value Exports, Stronger Corridors in China Ties

Iran and China should prioritize expanding exports of higher value-added goods and strengthening trade corridors as two strategic areas for deepening bilateral economic and trade cooperation, a senior Iranian trade official said on Thursday. Abdolsadeh Neisy, director general of the East Asia, Subcontinent and Oceania Office at the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran, made the remarks at the Iran-China Trade and Investment Conference in China, calling for a sustainable and balanced partnership based on mutual interests. “Iran’s approach to cooperation with China is not simply about increasing the volume of trade, but about building a partnership that leads to expanded trade, investment development and an effective presence of businesses from both countries in regional and international markets,” he said.
The conference was held on the sidelines of the ninth China International Import Expo (CIIE) and organized by the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran in cooperation with Iranian commercial counselors based in Shanghai and Beijing, IRNA reported. It brought together officials, senior executives, investors, traders, entrepreneurs and business representatives from both countries to discuss opportunities for economic, trade and investment cooperation.
Neisy said Iran’s abundant natural resources, diverse production capabilities, large domestic market, access to neighboring countries and strategic geographical position offered considerable potential for expanding bilateral trade and joint investment. He identified higher value-added exports as the first strategic priority, saying Iran aimed to move away from exporting raw and semi-processed materials toward goods that generate greater added value, export earnings and employment. He pointed to opportunities for cooperation with Chinese partners in food industries, processed agricultural products, petrochemicals, mining, construction materials, industrial goods and other manufactured products. Such cooperation could help complete supply chains, expand export-oriented production and increase the presence of Iranian goods in China and other regional markets, while improving product quality, strengthening domestic production and enhancing economic competitiveness, he said.
Turning to the second priority, Neisy called for stronger trade corridors linking Iran and China, highlighting the role of international transport routes in shaping global commerce. Iran’s geographical position enables it to serve as an effective link connecting East and West, as well as North and South, he said. He described trade corridors as more than routes for transporting goods, saying they could also support trade expansion, logistics services, regional distribution centers and lasting economic partnerships. Neisy also highlighted the potential of existing regional transport links, including trade connections between Iran, China and third countries, to expand regional commerce and strengthen international supply chains. - Iran Daily

Coordination Meeting Held for 4th Permanent Iran-Africa Economic Summit

The Head of the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran identified the identification of firms with real export capacity, the supportive role of development organizations, facilitation of financing, and paving the way for concluding trade contracts as requirements for leveraging the Iran-Africa Trade Summit in the path of developing Iran's exports to African markets.
According to an IRNA report from the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran, the coordination meeting for the Fourth Permanent Iran-Africa Economic Summit was held with the presence of Hamid Padash, Deputy for Economic and Infrastructure Coordination and Supervision of the First Vice President, Mohammad Ali Dehghan Dehnavi, Head of the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran, Mohammad Sadegh Qannadzadeh, Deputy for Commercial Services of the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran, and a group of representatives from various government institutions and the private sector.
Dehghan Dehnavi described the holding of this summit as a national program and a strategic choice, adding: "The Africa Headquarters has been formed, and this issue is among the working priorities of the First Vice President; therefore, it is expected that the planned programs will be held in a manner befitting the country and that the ground will be prepared for Iran's powerful presence and the exploitation of Africa's trade opportunities."
Emphasizing that companies must have a clear plan for participating in this event in accordance with their mission and capacities, he said: "Before the holding of this summit, organizations should think about and plan how to participate and how to exploit this opportunity; I also emphasize that during the event, experts who have sufficient technical information and the necessary capability in negotiation and concluding trade contracts should be utilized."
According to Dehghan Dehnavi, participation in such an event must be accompanied by a clear economic and trade mission, because the goal is economic benefit for the entire country, not sending a larger number of companies to the summit. Therefore, if an organization does not have a clear plan for using the upcoming opportunity, it needs to review its mode of participation.
The Deputy Minister of Industry, Mining and Trade, referring to the role of development organizations in supporting private sector firms, stated: "The expectation from large companies and development organizations is that, instead of focusing on their own direct presence, they play a supportive role—in other words, accompany smaller and capable private sector companies. These organizations must also consider their social responsibility and industrial development mission and pave the way for the presence of companies that do not have the real capacity for export and activity in the African market."
The Head of the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran emphasized the necessity of the National Development Fund and the banking system playing an effective role in developing trade with Africa and said: "The presence of the National Development Fund and banks in this summit will be effective when it leads to facilitating financing and preparing the ground for the presence and activity of companies in African markets."
The Head of the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran, in conclusion, emphasizing the specific responsibility of each of the organizations present at the summit, said: "Every department, institution, organization, and economic firm must have a clear plan and strategy for exploiting the opportunities of this event in accordance with its mission. We hope that with the participation and companionship of all organizations, we can hold a program befitting the country and make the best use of the summit's capacity to develop Iran's trade and economic relations with the African continent." - Tehran Times

US Asks Iraq to Close Border Crossings with Iran: FM Hussein

Fuad Hussein, Iraq’s foreign minister, said the United States had asked Baghdad to close all border crossings shared with Iran, except for two. Spaking to al-Jazeera, Fuad Husseiin on Saturday, Fuad Hussein said that Washington had asked Baghdad to close all border crossings shared with Iran, except for two. This comes after the US failures in its military campaign and naval blockade against Tehran.
The Al-Sheib border crossing in Iraq, known as Chazabeh on the Iranian side, has been closed since the morning of Wednesday, October 21, 2026, by order of the Iraqi government led by Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi. As a result, both passenger traffic and the movement of commercial goods through the crossing have been suspended. Eighteen days after the closure, protests in Iraq’s Maysan province are continuing. Reports indicate that gathering of protesters also escalated into tensions and clashes.
Iraq’s foreign minister said the current situation points to the possibility of renewed military conflict. Hussein also said Iraq had suffered losses of approximately US$60 billion following the suspension of oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz. - Mehr

Expanding on Naval Blockade, US Military Looks to Restrict Iranian Land Commerce

Building on a months-long naval blockade on Iran, the US military said on Saturday it is launching a task force to help crack down on Tehran’s movement of advanced weapons and other sanctioned material over its land borders and through the Caspian Sea.
Task Force Iron Gate, which was first reported by Reuters, will be based in Tampa, Florida, and will coordinate with other US government agencies. Beyond movement of weapons, it will also focus on halting the flow of dual-use technologies used by Iran and stemming what Washington calls illegal revenue streams.
The establishment of the task force is the latest illustration of how the US is still searching for ways to increase pressure on Tehran, more than eight months after launching with Israel a war against the Islamic Republic.
While US strikes have dealt devastating blows to Iran’s conventional military and the US naval blockade has severely restricted its crude exports through the Strait of Hormuz and the Arabian Sea, Iran still poses a formidable threat to the region and its rulers have tightened their grip on the country.
IRAN’S SECRET NETWORK
A Reuters investigation found Iran has created a secret network of military agencies to import at least US$2 billion in hardware, explosives and heavy-duty trucks since January 2025, evading both the US naval blockade and Western sanctions. The material entered Iran by cargo ship across the Caspian Sea from Russia, by truck from Central Asia, and by freight planes from China, the Reuters investigation showed.
US Central Command said the task force will coordinate with other government agencies. A US military official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that was expected to include the Treasury, State and Justice Departments but also the intelligence community.
“Strengthening CENTCOM’s collaboration with US interagency partners will further constrain Iran’s ability to finance terrorism, rebuild weapons factories, and replenish their military,” Admiral Brad Cooper, the commander of Central Command, said in a statement. Central Command estimated that its naval blockade has prevented Iran from exporting more than US$25 billion in crude oil.
Still, Iran has proven resilient and gloated following US midterm election results that punished Trump’s Republican Party, giving control of Congress to opposition Democrats. Vice President JD Vance blamed the Iran war for electoral rout, and appeared to question whether the conflict was worth it.
Mediators have intensified efforts in recent days to end the war between Iran and the United States amid fears it could reignite after the US midterm elections. Trump has been threatened carry out a new offensive against Iran, putting countries in the GCC on edge, since Tehran has threatened broad retaliation against GCC infrastructure. Reuters has reported that US intelligence assessments in recent months have indicated that renewed strikes on Iran would not fundamentally change Tehran’s negotiating position or lead to the fall of Iran’s government. - Internazionale

Explosions Heard in Areas in south of Iran

Explosions were heard on Saturday evening in several areas in south of Iran, including on Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz, Iranian state television reported. Iran’s state TV suggested that the explosions might be linked to Iranian military activities in the strategic waterway, which has become subject to repeated attacks on commercial shipping since the war erupted between the US and Iran in February.
It said Iranian officials have not confirmed any missile strikes on the areas, while the semi-official Tasnim news agency cited a source as saying that the explosions heard on Qeshm Island were not related to missile strikes.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Navy said early on Sunday that two oil tankers were on fire after hitting mines as they attempted to pass through an “unauthorized route” in the strait. It was not immediately clear if the incidents referred to by the IRGC were linked to the sound of explosions heard in southern Iranian areas.
Iran has hit vessels it says have violated its restrictions on passage through the waterway, as it seeks to assert control over the strait and exert pressure on Washington. Earlier on Saturday, Tasnim news agency said two missiles struck Qeshm Island with no official information on possible damage.
The reported explosions come days after the US carried out strikes on the island. A US official said those strikes were limited and not a resumption of major combat operations. The US military said on Saturday evening that its forces disabled a commercial vessel that tried to get through the US blockade of Iran.
The US Central Command said one of its aircraft fired at the vessel’s stern and disabled the ship after it attempted to violate the blockade. Countries in the region had been anticipating that US President Donald Trump, who has held off on strikes on Iran during the weeks leading up to Tuesday’s midterm elections, could restart attacks once the voting was over. Iran has repeatedly said it would respond to new attacks by striking at US and Israeli targets in neighboring countries. - Internazionale

26th Intl. Electricity Industry Exhibition Kicks Off in Tehran

The 26nd Iran International Electricity Exhibition was inaugurated at Tehran Permanent International Fairgrounds on Saturday with the participation of the Minister of Energy Abbas Aliabadi along with the Ministry’s deputies, senior officials, and key stakeholders from the electricity industry. In this edition, 420 domestic and foreign companies are participating—comprising 350 domestic and 70 international firms—to showcase their latest achievements, cutting-edge technologies, products, and specialized capabilities across various segments of the electricity industry supply chain. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the exhibition, Minister of Energy Aliabadi referred to the damage inflicted upon some of the country’s facilities and infrastructure during the imposed war on Iran by the U.S.-Israeli aggression. He said that, in recent years, the Ministry of Energy has undertaken two fundamental initiatives within the electricity sector: first, reducing electricity consumption, and second, addressing a portion of the deficits and damages resulting from the war.
Recognized as the country’s premier specialized event for the electricity sector, this exhibition serves as an ideal platform for manufacturers, experts, knowledge-based companies, and international stakeholders to convene. Through the exchange of technical knowledge, technology transfer, and the presentation of existing capacities, the event fosters greater collaboration and synergy within the industry. With an electricity output of 300 kilowatt-hours last year, Iran ranks second in the Middle East—trailing only Saudi Arabia—while its electricity consumption levels are comparable to those of Turkey, Spain, and Australia. A comparison of per capita electricity production and consumption in Iran reveals that management within this industrial sector requires improvement. In this context, the hosting of electricity-related exhibitions in Iran presents a valuable opportunity to address the challenges and obstacles hindering energy production and consumption in the country. Iran Elec Show 2026 brings together manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, contractors, consultants, investors and decision makers from the power industry, electrical and renewable energy sectors. The exhibition creates a focused environment for market entry, product presentation, business networking and long-term cooperation across Iran and neighboring markets. - Kayhan

Baker Hughes Sees Rebuilding Opportunities in Middle East Energy Sector

US energy technology company Baker Hughes sees opportunities for increased investment in energy and critical infrastructure across the Middle East as regional tensions ease, despite expecting a slowdown in oilfield activity in the fourth quarter of 2026.
"Our long-term outlook for the region remains very constructive, and a more stable environment could support not only recovery of existing activity, but a broader investment cycle around infrastructure, energy resilience and economic diversification," Chairman & Chief Executive Officer Lorenzo Simonelli said during third quarter 2026 results earnings call on Wednesday.
Middle East oilfield services revenue rose 17 percent quarter-on-quarter in the three months through September, supported by a recovery in offshore activity and stronger demand for pressure pumping and artificial lift services onshore.
However, Baker Hughes expects activity to decline in the fourth quarter, returning broadly to second-quarter levels.
"We are taking a measured approach to the near-term outlook and expect to see some moderation in regional activity levels, reflecting heightened tension in certain parts of the region," Simonelli said.
Chief Financial Officer Ahmed Moghal said during the call that higher logistics costs and supply chain challenges could put additional pressure on the execution of projects in the region.
Looking into 2027, Simonelli said the pace of normalisation remained uncertain, particularly for the OFSE segment (Oilfield Services & Equipment), although customer discussions continued to reinforce the Middle East's strategic importance for investment in oil and gas production, natural gas and power infrastructure.
"We could see additional investment in rebuilding and upgrading critical supply routes, supporting broader development across power generation, industrial, digital and water infrastructure," Simonelli said.
Baker Hughes is positioning its portfolio of gas compression, power generation, subsurface technologies and lifecycle services to capture a greater share of potential spending.
The company has already secured several regional contracts, including multi-year awards from Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) covering production technologies, artificial intelligence-enabled solutions and hybrid Kymera drill bits. It also announced plans for a research and technology development centre in Kuwait to support upstream production optimisation and develop local technical capabilities.
Separately, Baker Hughes secured compressor upgrade orders in the Middle East and Asia during the third quarter, reflecting continued investment in improving the efficiency and reliability of existing assets.
Under its Mature Assets Solutions business, which focuses on improving production recovery, extending the life of existing oil and gas fields, and repurposing ageing infrastructure, it is progressing an integrated programme across approximately 50 wells in Libya to help restore production and maximise recovery from mature fields. The initial scope focuses on electric submersible pump changeouts, with potential to broaden the role based on value delivered.
The company is also scaling this model through coiled tubing drilling contracts across the Middle East and Asia Pacific that combine its subsurface expertise, differentiated technology and integrated execution capabilities to help customers improve recovery and extend the productive life of mature fields.
Baker Hughes is targeting more than US$3 billion in annual revenue from the Mature Assets Solutions business by 2030, with high-single-digit annual growth.
The company expects global upstream spending to increase at a low- to mid-single-digit rate in 2027 but cautioned that the overall pace of recovery in the Middle East remains an important variable for its outlook.

Intl. Energy Majors Highlight Egypt Investment Opportunities at MOC 2026

US-based Apache, US-based Chevron, UAE-based Dragon Oil, Malaysian Petronas, and French-founded global energy technology company SLB highlighted opportunities to expand oil and gas investments in Egypt, citing improved investment terms, the settlement of outstanding payments to international partners, and the potential to leverage existing infrastructure to develop gas resources and increase production.
Speaking at the Mediterranean Offshore Conference and Exhibition (MOC 2026) in Alexandria, executives from the companies discussed investment conditions, gas development opportunities, and ways to maximize the value of Egypt’s petroleum resources and infrastructure.
Greg McDaniel, Senior Vice President of International Assets at Apache, said commercially viable gas project terms encourage investment and increase domestic supplies. He noted that the agreement between Apache, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) on gas had supported the expansion of the company’s gas development program in the Western Desert.
In late 2024, Apache reached a new gas sales agreement with Egypt that improved the commercial terms for incremental gas production, making further gas development in the Western Desert more economically attractive. The agreement builds on a 2021 modernization deal with EGPC, under which Apache committed at least US$3.5 billion to exploration, development, and production operations in the Western Desert.
Channa Kurukulasuriya, Chevron’s Country Manager in Egypt, said the company sees Egypt as a potential regional gas aggregation hub, supported by offshore and onshore facilities, pipeline networks, gas processing plants, and liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facilities.
Meanwhile, Farid Al Hashimi, Executive Director of Growth and Business Development at Dragon Oil, said the company was exploring offshore opportunities in the Mediterranean with the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), focusing on shallow-water gas resources that could be connected to existing Egyptian infrastructure to supply the domestic market.
Al Hashimi said Dragon Oil’s experience in the Gulf of Suez, where it acquired BP’s assets in the Gulf of Suez Petroleum Company (GUPCO), had helped it increase production and extend the operating life of mature fields.
He added that the company was seeking assets where it could create value and partners aligned with its approach of bringing production to market quickly. Dragon Oil could also draw on the supply chains of its parent group, Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC), and its Dubai operations to support its expansion into Mediterranean opportunities.
Hani Esmat, CEO of Petronas in Egypt, said improved relations between the Egyptian government and international investors had translated into new investment decisions. He cited the recent approval by Petronas and Shell of Phase 12 of gas development in the West Delta Deep Marine concession as evidence of their confidence in Egypt’s energy potential and long-term investment environment.
Yasser El Tawansi, General Manager of SLB, a global energy technology company founded in France, in Egypt, Sudan, and the Eastern Mediterranean, highlighted the role of digital solutions and operational integration in improving efficiency across Egypt’s natural gas value chain, from exploration and production to processing and manufacturing.
