A draft bill on the fight against illegal speculation, including prison sentences, was discussed at the Government meeting chaired Saturday by the Prime Minister, Minister of Finance, Aimene Benabderrahmane, the Prime Minister's Office said in a statement. According to the statement, the bill in question "aims to ensure the stability of the national market while preserving the purchasing power of the citizen through a legislative framework for an effective fight against illegal speculation, especially on staples products. Speculation will now be punishable by prison sentences heavily aggravated, in addition to penalties," said the same source.Initiated by the Ministry of Justice upon instruction from the President of the Republic, the aforementioned bill "will be examined at a forthcoming Council of Ministers meeting,” said the source.
