The Gulf Air Group Holding Company now detains 44% of the Bahrain Airport Services (BAS), Transportation and Telecommunication Minister, Group Chairman Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed announced.The minister, also chairman of the Bahrain Airport Company (BAC), which is responsible for managing and operating Bahrain International Airport, had signed a concession agreement with BAS chairman Jalal Mohammed Jalal.The deal was also signed by BAC Chief Executive Officer Mohammed Youssef Al-Binfalah, BAS Chief Salman Al-Mahameed, in the presence of BAS board members, BAC officials at the ministry’s headquarters in Manama.The agreement gives the Bahrain Airport Company the commercial franchise of the Bahrain Airport Services Company 'BAS' to work as a provider of ground handling services in the new terminal building at Bahrain International Airport, including handling services for passengers, luggage, aircraft and cargo, catering and engineering services until 2034.This agreement, which comes into effect in conjunction with the Bahrain International Airport Modernization Program, aims to develop the level of services in general, in addition to setting clear standards for all ground handling operations provided according to international standards.This is reflected in the level of services provided to travelers and airline operators through investment in the purchase of modern ground equipment in line with international technology and supporting the environment, which may cost up to BD 7 million (US$18.45 million).
